2016 Hunter training award winners announced

The best and brightest amongst the Hunter’s apprentices, trainees, educators, employers and training providers have been recognised at the 2016 Hunter Regional Training Awards.

Minister for Skills John Barilaro congratulated the outstanding candidates and winners, who exemplify the many pathways and opportunities presented by vocational training.

“Vocational education and training is a pathway to a job across so many industries, for people of all ages,” he said.

“The quality of the finalists and winners was outstanding, showcasing the world class vocational education and training in NSW and I congratulate all participants.”

“From retail to engineering and training for people with a disability, the opportunities in vocational training are endless.”

The evening recognised the exceptional dedication to the chosen careers of apprentices and trainees from the Hunter region across 35 vocations, as well as the commitment of their employers in the provision of quality training, thereby ensuring a highly skilled future workforce in the Hunter.

These awards are made possible by the support and sponsorship of local employers and organisations that have continually shown their faith in both the apprenticeship and traineeship systems by supporting the awards, as well as assisting numerous apprentices and trainees with training and job placement.

Relieving Regional Manager – Training Services NSW, Mrs Amber Bibby, said that currently the Hunter region employs over 12,000 apprentices and trainees.

“This is a significant contribution to the State’s training needs especially with the current skills shortage, and it was great to recognise the contributions and achievement of the award winners,” Amber said.

The major sponsors of the NSW Awards are the NSW Skills Board, The Bight Future Campaign, TAFE NSW and Training Services NSW, NSW Department of Industry.

The winners will go on to compete at the NSW Training Awards in September, which celebrate the achievements of the best in vocational training in NSW.
