Business builds for a cure

The Hunter business community is rallying behind Build for a Cure, a housing project to raise vital funds for cancer research by the Children’s Cancer Institute (CCI).

A new luxury, four bedroom, architecturally designed, family home in Lake Macquarie, donated by McDonald Jones Homes, their tradies and suppliers, has been built in just 14 days. It is located at Billy’s Lookout, Teralba, on a 600 square metre block donated by McCloy Group. The home will be ready to move in to for the fortunate bidder with more than $90,000 worth of furniture, furnishings and appliances provided by Electrolux, Freedom and Panasonic. PRDnationwide Newcastle & Lake Macquarie will market and auction the home for free as part of its contribution to ensure that 100 per cent of the sale proceeds go to the CCI.

Scott Cam of The Block joined fellow Build for a Cure program supporters, and local winners of The Block, Brad and Lara Cranfield, to reveal the completed home on Sunday (18 September 2016).

The home will be open for inspection each Thursday from 5 to 6pm and Saturday’s between noon and 1pm and go under the auctioneer’s hammer on 23 October.

PRDnationwide Newcastle & Lake Macquarie Principal Mark Kentwell has brought in high profile auctioneer Damien Cooley to conduct the auction. Damien has performed the winning auction on The Block five times and is the most booked auctioneer on the show making his eighth appearance in 2015. The home will be auctioned using the Friendly Auction System pioneered by Mark to make the auction process a win/win for all parties.

CCI Executive Director Professor Michelle Haber AM said all funds raised through this Build for a Cure campaign will allow then to research tailored therapies for cancer patients across Australia, including those treated at the John Hunter Children’s Hospital in Newcastle.

“Build for a Cure, is a wonderfully innovative project, and I am blown away by the generosity of all our partners who made this happen,” Michelle said.

“This ground-breaking campaign will raise much-needed funds for our childhood cancer research and will take us a step closer in our journey to curing childhood cancer,” she said.

September is International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Those who don’t make the winning bid or who wish to support the cause can buy a $10 Virtual Gold Brick for a chance to win a $50,000 Ultimate Home prize package.
