Hunter Safety Awards to highlight local achievements

Hunter-based businesswoman Sarah-Jane Dunford has launched the inaugural Hunter Safety Awards.

Developed to feature the achievements of local organisations and individuals, Sarah-Jane says that it’s important to hear the success stories surrounding the industry.

“Frequently it is only the negative stories that are publicised in the area of WHS,” Sarah-Jane said.

“In my role as a WHS consultant I get to see all the great things local people and businesses are implementing and I wanted these achievements to get the recognition they deserve.”

“I hope that by highlighting innovative approaches, best-practice implementation and those people that are passionate about WHS we can shine a spotlight on both our region and the industry.”

The Hunter Safety Awards comprises of 10 key categories, with nominations now open.

  • Best WHS Management System (Large organisation)

“I urge all local business owners, managers and employees to consider entering the awards,” Sarah-Jane said.

“It is a great opportunity to take stock of all the great things you have achieved, as well as get external recognition and kudos.”

“Entries don’t close until the end of November, however by downloading the criteria now they’ll have plenty of time to prepare their applications.”

“Whilst the name may be the Hunter Safety Awards, these awards acknowledge the full gamut of WHS, including the idea of embracing wellness as part of a workplace, maintaining a healthy life – both at work and at home, as well as the more traditional safety elements such as PPE, risk assessments and safety management planning.”

Sarah-Jane is also the Principal of Riskology Consulting, a safety advisory, training and auditing service.

Hunter Safety Awards

The Hunter region is well-known for leading the way in industry, this in turn has led to the region becoming champions of WHS.

The Hunter Safety Award were born out of desire to recognise companies and individuals within the Hunter region who are demonstrating best-practice and innovative approaches when it comes to workplace health and safety (WHS).
