Newcastle’s newest approach to training

Newcastle’s newest approach to training

Local businessman Ben Dewson has diversified his business holdings once again, this time launching 5th Level Training.

Run out of Mayfield, 5th Level Training officially launched this week with a number of nationally accredited and approved training courses including First Aid, CPR, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Provide Responsible Gambling Services (RGS).

Ben is also the Managing Director at Holistic Security, a progressive company with a fresh new approach to security services and training. The company has pioneered a new and highly effective methodology for crowd control and security that has seen them become the brand of choice for many high profile Hunter hospitality venues.

To round out his presence in the hospitality space, Ben is also a co-owner of  5 Sawyers on Darby Street.

In regards to the launch of 5th Level Training, as the CEO and Chief Instructor Ben says they’ve got a different approach because the company aligns their training style with the personalities drawn to hospitality.

“We’ll have classes full of friendly, outgoing people – they’re instructors should be no different,” Ben says. “We know that having industry experience is crucial for instructors, and we know that enjoyment is vital for students. If they’re not having fun, they’re not going to learn much.”

“Just covering the content and ticking off the competencies isn’t enough; students need to be engaged. We focus on the students first and make sure the competencies are covered as well.”

Since entering the market with some introductory courses, the 5th Level Training team have seen a large proportion of young people signing up to the weekly training courses in order to be able to work in hospitality, while the First Aid and CPR courses offered have lured in a broad range of students. A new course focused on Childcare First Aid will be offered within the next few weeks.

“Learning how to stay calm, take control of the situation and respond in the critical moments before help arrives is the most important skill a person could have in a medical emergency. Especially if they’re a parent or carer of small children,” Ben continued.

“If everyone can leave our courses with a smile, a certificate, a whole heap of knowledge and the confidence to apply their new skills, then it’s a great day for us.”

5th Level Training runs courses every week covering RSA, RCG, First Aid and CPR.
