In another sign of urban renewal for Newcastle’s CBD, The Wests Group will open the inner city’s largest exhibition and conference facility in July this year.

After the purchase of Newcastle Panther’s in mid 2015, The Wests Group has continued to invest in the site, relaunching the lower level as Wests City and the upper space as Newcastle Exhibition and Convention Centre (NEX).

The Wests Group CEO Philip Gardner said the purchase of Newcastle Panthers and refurbishment of the venue into NEX addressed a serious lack of large conferencing facilities in the Newcastle CBD area.

“We saw a significant gap in the Newcastle market for a conference and exhibition centre able to cater to large groups,” Philip said.

‘‘The inner-city location provides an excellent expansion opportunity for the Wests Group, and reflects our confidence in the city.’’

“Once open, NEX will cater for groups up to 2,400 people, while also appealing to smaller, more intimate gatherings with private bars and breakout rooms.”

NEX will feature contemporary designs, flexible spaces and cutting-edge technology.

For those needing to stay overnight, NEX offers first class service in a resort style atmosphere at the Executive Inn and the Gateway Inn Newcastle. West’s have also partnered with accommodation providers within walking distance to NEX.

The Wests Group has clubs at New Lambton, Mayfield, Cardiff and Nelson Bay, with accommodation attached at New Lambton and Mayfield, a high-end resort – The Anchorage at Port Stephens, plus the region’s largest locally owned fitness chain in Balance Collective.
