Nexus Law Group named as finalists in law awards

The 15th Annual Australian Law Awards have announced Nexus Law Group as a finalist in three major categories, establishing the Newcastle firm as a major player in the national legal industry. The categories include Boutique Law Firm of the Year, Managing Partner of the Year and Sole Practitioner of the Year.

Nexus’ Founder and Managing Principal, Marcus McCarthy has been selected as a finalist in the Managing Partner of the Year category, an award that is being contested by managing partners from some of Australia’s most established and best known firms, including Baker and McKenzie, Clayton Utz, Gilbert and Tobin and Herbert Smith Freehills.

Marcus has been recognised in a number of national and international legal awards over the past 12 months for his contribution to reshaping the practice of law in Australia.

A champion of the ‘NewLaw’ concept, Marcus established Nexus Law Group as a means through which aspiring and accomplished lawyers can practice law as sole practitioners, but with the collegial support of a network of other senior lawyers in a practice system with full administrative backup. Sole practitioners operating under the model have all the benefits flexibility and autonomy of sole practice, but enjoy the advantages that come with working under a recognised brand and national structure that promotes referral of work.

Justin Sprogis, who forms part of Nexus’s network of consulting principals, has also been nominated by one of his corporate clients in the ‘Sole Practitioner’ category of the Australian Law Awards. His nomination evidences the regard major corporates place on Nexus’s services and the increasing acceptance within the business community that the highest standards of legal advice can be sort from innovatively structured boutique firms such as Nexus.

“Nexus’ rapid rise in the national legal space is in a large part due to this ability to provide well remunerated and interesting work for lawyers, but at the same time give clients direct access to some of the country’s finest legal talent ‚Äì at a much lower cost than that charged by high end firms,” Marcus said.

“It is fantastic to have the firm, and those working within it, recognised for the excellent service provided. It is great to see an organisation founded in Newcastle ‚Äì and which still has its national hub office here ‚Äì named in such prestigious and highly regarded awards. To be named alongside some of the industry’s oldest and most respected firms shows that Nexus is clearly doing a lot of things well, from the perspective of both the lawyers who work with us to the clients they serve.”

The winners of the 2015 Lawyers Weekly Law Awards will be named at an event held in Sydney on 17 September 2015.
