The NSW Government and industry are working together to help build the Hunter region’s vocational education and training capability through a industry trainer and assessor capability project.
Up to 45 people with trades-based qualifications or health and community qualifications and experience will have the opportunity to be supported to make a career change to become a trainer or assessor.
Forsythes Training CEO, Chad White, said the program will provide those people with fully subsidised skill set training up front as well as the possibility of a scholarship to complete a nationally accredited Certificate lV in Training & Assessment Education (TAE40116) qualification.
Chad said the skills training will be provided by registered training organisation, Forythes Training, this year.
Participants will also get a practical work placement to contextualise the training.
“This program is ideal for displaced or redundant workers or skilled tradespeople looking for a new challenge,” Chad said.
“There may be people who are tired of being on the tools or looking for a new work challenge or opportunity to give back to your industry,” he said.
Chad said the Hunter is facing a shortage of trainers and assessor in a range of sectors including community services, health, pathology services, nursing, construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, surveying, engineering, heavy and light vehicle automotive, manufacturing, IT.
“The growth in sectors requiring trainers and assessors means there are good employment opportunities for people with the right skills and experience,” Chad continued.
The new program is an NSW Government and industry partnership developed by Training Services NSW, TAFE NSW, RDA Hunter, Hunter Region Employment Facilitator, Department of Defence, VERTO and Forsythes Training.
People will be able to get more details at a free information evening to be held on 17 October 2019 in Newcastle. Registration closes after Tuesday 15 October.’
