Women stop for one minute and think about how often you put themselves second at work and at home.
(Yes, some men put themselves second too at times but generally not as often as women, particularly in the workplace. Gents, this information may also apply to you but I am holding a women only event this time around. It is important you read on though because helping women to love themselves more helps everyone.)
Hunter businesswomen who read my columns, have heard me speak or read my book, I Love Myself, know I am passionate about the fact that when women learn to love themselves they are putting themselves on a better path to achieve their work and personal goals.
I am not suggesting you become completely self centred but putting yourself first just some of the time will make you a better business woman as well as mother, partner, lover and community member. Women need to learn to undo years of putting themselves second and loving themselves more.
I mostly speak or write about the need to love yourself on the inside. Presenting yourself well is also key to success. That is why I jumped at the chance to work with local styling guru Sam Woods at a new seminar for women to be held in Newcastle in June.
Presenting well does not mean aspiring to be a super model. It means dressing to support your personality and body shape. Rightly or wrongly, people judge you in business on how you present yourself. You need to dress and act in a way that helps you to achieve your particular goal. It also stands to reason that if you think you look great and successful you will feel more confident and behave more confidently.
Sam has 30 years of experience in fashion and styling. She has transformed the lives of hundreds of women from everyday legends to corporate giants.
I asked Sam for her top three tips to loving yourself on the outside.
- Wear your personal best energy and harmony colours to ensure you always look your best (even without makeup).
- Dress to enhance, not hide your body shape.
- Express your personality with styling that empowers you.
Here are my top three tips to loving yourself on the inside.
- Honour and love yourself first.
- Learn to say no including to your loved ones.
- Live your passions not other people’s passions.
